Program Notes

The Introduction to The Rite of Spring, set for full clarinet choir after Stravinsky’s 1913 original and his own piano four-hands arrangement. The opening solo and the woodwind writing that gathers around it are redistributed across the choir, with the harmony clarinets carrying much of the original color. The first installment of a complete clarinet-choir Rite.

Performance Notes

Scored in 15 parts: two E-flat, six B-flat, two alto, three bass, contra-alto, and contrabass clarinets. The exposed solo writing and stacked textures ask for an experienced section.
