Rose adapted these études from Ferling’s oboe studies for his own students at the Paris Conservatoire—credit where it’s due—and clarinetists have been living with them since 1893. In these settings the étude stays right where Rose left it, and three new parts grow around it: the study you were already assigned becomes chamber music. Performance Notes
Scored for three B♭ clarinets and bass clarinet. The étude sits in Clarinet 1, kept near-identical to Rose’s text (notes added only where needed). The accompanying parts bring challenges of their own, but their job is to serve the study of the étude.
