Program Notes
The opening of Act I from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake (1875–77), set for full clarinet choir. The scene is a festive one—a celebration at the prince’s court, before any of the ballet’s famous melancholy arrives—and the arrangement spreads that bright orchestral color across the choir rather than shrinking it down. The first of several planned Swan Lake selections.
Performance Notes
Scored in 10 parts: E-flat clarinet, four B-flat clarinets, alto clarinet, two bass clarinets, contra-alto, and contrabass clarinet.
